BEATMAKER

Micky Staten - Beatmaker

Since a youngin’ Micky has been into the arts as well as sports via basketball. Growing up in the slums of Shaolin, in the heart of the Wu-Tang district, Stapleton to be exact, it’s no surprise how he came to call music his first love. Micky attributes Ryan Leslie as one of his idols and key inspirations to pursuing the craft of beat-making. Additionally, Hans Zimmer played an aspirational role. Micky states that if he didn’t go to school for Media Studies he would have embarked upon the career path of a film composer.

Micky’s coming out party to the world as a music producer occurred when he and longtime friend, Holy Moe, joined forces and dropped “Holy Matrimony” in 2016. The project received overall good reviews and was critically acclaimed amongst the locals within NYC’s underground scene. The fan favorite in “Live 4 me”, which encompasses the soulful vocals of Lauryn Hill as a sample, was a track that Micky produced and put him on the radar as a music talent. The same sample was later used on Drake’s “Nice 4 What” and led fans to believe that Drake heard “Live 4 Me” and stole it. “Hey—the streets talk…we listen.” posits Micky as he shrugs and laughs. Micky served as the Executive Producer for the project and has a couple writer credits on there to boot.
